New Home Planning & Design Workshop

The New Home Planning & Design Workshop has provided guidance to hundreds of individuals interested in building a custom home.  This one-day workshop provides a comprehensive look at the various aspects of the building process and offers numerous suggestions as you begin planning for your new home.

The Instructor

Doug McMahan, owner of Elements Construction Services, has been presenting the New Home Planning Workshop since 1992. His designs range from the modest to the luxurious and have been showcased in the 2002 Country Manor Home Tour, 2005 Home-A-Rama, 2002-2005 Parade of Homes and the 2006 and 2007 Luxury Home Tour.  Projects have included various building methods such as log homes, SIPS, insulated concrete forms, wood frame and more.  Mr. McMahan has been featured in various publications such as the Indianapolis Monthly, Indianapolis Star, and the Noblesville Ledger, as well as radio and television shows focused on new home design and construction.

Budget  Learn the information necessary for informed and value based decisions and how to develop a budget with an understanding of the variables impacting costs.

Expectations   Homeowner complaints often correlate to a failure by the builder to meet quality expectations. Learn methods and tools to help cultivate and communicate desired standards.

Assessing Neighborhoods & Lots   Discover the hidden costs often associated with land purchases and how building covenants can impact your investment.

Designing Your Home   Learn tips and techniques for gathering ideas, developing a layout, and prioritizing space. We will also discuss cost factors of design as well as the trends important for resale.

Construction Methods & Components   The quality of your home hinges on the materials & techniques used in its construction. Learn how to prevent basements from flooding, reduce squeaky floors, and other tips to ensure a quality home.

Innovations & Technology Discover the pros and cons of some of the latest innovations in home construction. This will include a discussion of specialty products and toys for your home.

Planning Guide  You will receive a home planning binder that will organize and guide you through your planning and construction process.

Moving Forward   We will have a behind the scenes discussion of the building industry and how to work with vendors and contractors, as well as explain the different types of building contracts and the pros and cons of each.
